In a career that now spans seventeen years, Wobble has always managed to surprise, confound and delight his core audience. His musical direction has never followed the dictates of record biz marketing men - nor has he lost the simlpe performers need to please his audience. As he tellingly commented to the NME back in 1978, "I've always been confident in what I do, yet at the same time I've always had a fear of rejection". This duality is, perhaps, the key to his continued creativity and invention.
Now comes a brand new and fresh Jah Wobble recording, Deep Space featuring drummer Jaki Leibezeit of legendary German Art-rockers Can, ace jazz/experimental bass player Bill Laswell, the Bonian singer Amila Sulejmanovic plus Clive Bell and Jean-Pierre Rasie on pipes and flutes, as well as Wobble's long time sparring partner Mark Lusardi (playing 'The Mutator'). With Deep Space, Wobble takes his development of 'Real' ambient even further, taking a lead from Avant Garde composers Stockhausen and Messiaen.
The seven tracks are "Very trance-like, very atmospheric, with an emphasis on rhythmic movement - classic bass and drums, very heavy," confirms Wobble. A true multi-instrumentalist, Jah Wobble plays bass, keyboards, orga, percussion and guitars. He also produced six of the seven tracks on the album, with Bill Laswell producing track 3.
